Can I insure a second hand, or older bicycle?
Yes – providing you have proof of purchase (see below) and the bicycle is two years old or less you can insure it with CycleSmart.
What types of bicycles does CycleSmart cover?
CycleSmart will cover any type of bicycle. This includes tandems, tricycles, recumbents and cycles. We will also cover any bicycle which meets definition of bicycle as outlined in the various state road legislations in regards to electric assisted bicycles. Please contact Swann Insurance for further details if you are unsure of whether your bicycle may qualify for cover.
What proof of ownership do I require?
CycleSmart requires all customers to provide proof of ownership should they make a claim. If the policy was purchased via one of our dealers, this requirement is waived as they require this to enter the policy details at the time of purchase. If the policy has been purchased online, you will be required to provide a receipt/invoice of sale which clearly shows the purchase of the bicycle and/or accessories with the value in Australian Dollars.
If you have purchased the policy online you will be required to have a Bicycle Condition Report signed off by a bicycle store. This form is sent to you with the Policy Schedule.
Am I covered if I damage my bicycle while on my Car Racks?
Yes, CycleSmart does not include carriage of bicycles on vehicle mounted racks under its definition of transit. Transit is excluded in the policy, but refers to the transportation of bicycles by couriers and similar activities.
Am I covered while travelling overseas?
CycleSmart excludes travel overseas. However, this exclusion can be waived under certain circumstances. Please contact Swann Insurance if you believe you may require this waiver and we will send you a written approval where possible.
I got a great deal on my bike – Can I cover it for the full retail value?
No. We only provide cover up to the value of purchase as stated on the invoice/receipt of purchase.
What do I do if I have to make a claim?
If you are involved in an incident that you believe may result in a claim the first step is to contact our claims team. They will step you through the process and provide you all the documentation you need.
Should you require a quote for repair and replacement, you can either get a single quote from a registered CycleSmart Dealer, or get two quotes from any non-CycleSmart Dealer stores.
